IHP members are deploying to Lebanon
The enormous explosion devastated large parts of Beirut on the 4th of August and has caused a lot of human suffering. IHP members have rapidly mobilized resources in support of the European Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM) and the United Nations Disaster and Assessment and Coordination team (UNDAC) amongst others.
For example, ESAF (Finland) has deployed a Technical Assistance and Support Team and a Team Leader to the EUCPM, THW (Germany) has deployed a Medium Urban Search and Rescue Team and Embassy support Team, MSB (Sweden) has deployed medical equipment and an environment expert, DSB (Norway) has provided medical equipment. Last but not least, CGDIS (Luxembourg), MSB (Sweden), DFID (UK) and DEMA (Denmark) have been providing disaster management personnel to the UNDAC-team. The personnel are providing expertise on disaster management, coordination, information management, logistics, ICT etc. to support the government in carrying out disaster assessments and coordination of relief efforts.
"We manage to mobilize within a couple of hours and that is a core strength of all of the member agencies. We showcase that the resources and expertise that the members of IHP possess are highly valuable and makes a difference to the response efforts and the affected population in Beirut" Per Velandia - IHP Focal Point of MSB".
